composition notation

Postby Guest » Wed Dec 31, 2003 9:16 pm

I am reading "UML Components" by Cheesman and Daniels. In this book they use a notation that I am not familar with (refer to the attachment). The diagram contains the normal composition association notation however on the line ther is a slash. I want to know what the slash means. They do not use this notation all of the time so it must have a significant definition. Thank you for your assitance.

Composers seldom specify bowing unless they are after a particular effect (eg repeated re-taken down bows or 'floating' repeated up bows). String players usually work-out bowing that work well for themselves (or for the section if in an orchestra). So, don't feel you have to notate bowing note by note.
