Unbearable delay, hard to navigate

Postby Guest » Mon Nov 13, 2006 8:30 pm

I installed the community edition and upgraded eclipse as recommeded in your installation procedure. The OS is W2K, and the machine is a dual core with several GB of memory.

With an existing project and Apollo enabled, the machine just grinds and grinds trying to build the workspace. After 10min or so I can see a class diagram. Any change that causes the workspace to rebuild means another long wait.

Also, when I did have a diagram up I could not find an overview window to help navigate the large diagram. And, when I select a package in the diagram I can't figure out how to drill into it ("show in" in the popup menu is disabled).

Apollo needs some time before the first diagram pops up, as a number of plug-ins have to be loaded and initialised. Nevertheless, that's should be less than 10 seconds, especially on a machine like yours.

I'd recommend to check your memory settings for eclipse.
Consider assigning 512m of memory by adding

-vmargs
-Xmx512m

to the eclipse.ini located in your eclipse installation folder.

If the problem persists, please file a support request.

BTW, are you talking about Apollo or Poseidon?
