More diagrams (views) per package?

Postby maa » Wed Oct 18, 2006 9:59 pm

Hi,

Apollo version 1.0.0 creates one UML model file per package in the project, and if you open it as a diagram (view or editor) it creates a UML diagram file. That results in one model file and one diagram file per package. It would be nice though, to create more views (diagrams) from one UML model file (which is based on a package), since you will get a very cluttered diagram in case of large packages if all classes are shown in the one view available for a package.

I understand that Apollo is not Poseidon and if one needs anaylysis capabilities one should go for Poseidon, but it would be nice to select from a list of classes within that package before the diagram is created (or remove classes from the view - not the model), and also be able to create more (named) diagrams (views). Or just create new diagrams below a package and then drag classes onto that. Smaller focused views (diagrams) will help the programmer a lot more than one big diagram, I think.

best regards,
maa

Thanks for your feedback.

For Apollo 1.0 we have focused on so called "canonical" GMF diagrams which we find suitable for roundtrip engineering, as Java and UML elements correspond in a 1-to-1 fashion.

Multiple diagrams per package, and diagrams showing elements from different packages, are planned for future development. So stay tuned.

When are you planning to support multiple packages in one view? That would be really usefull, since diagrams per package are so fragmented.
